A Year with the WordPress Community
2025 has been one of the best and busiest years of my life in the WordPress community.
From the first event in February to the last one in November, I had the chance to travel, teach, and share great moments with amazing people.
It was a year full of learning, new friends, and memories I will never forget.
WP DevDay – February
The year started with WP DevDay, where I was invited by Giancarlo Villalobos to give a workshop about how to build your own portfolio using WordPress.
It was the perfect moment to introduce WordPress Playground, since many people had trouble setting up WordPress locally.
Instead of installing Local or WP Studio, everyone used Playground right in their browsers and followed the entire session without any problems.
It worked perfectly and showed how easy it is to start building with WordPress today.
WordCamp US – Portland, August
In August, our Costa Rican team was invited to WordCamp US 2025 in Portland to share the story of our Campus Connect initiative.
This was the first Campus Connect in Latin America and only the second in the world.
We talked about how the project started, what we learned, and how universities can connect students with the WordPress community.
It was also a very special trip. For many of my teammates, it was their first time traveling abroad, and seeing them live that experience made it unforgettable.

WP YouthDay – Nicaragua
Later in the year, I was invited by Lua Salazar to join the WP YouthDay in Nicaragua.
I gave a workshop on how to create a portfolio using the WordPress block editor, and it was great to see so many kids and teenagers interested in technology.
The organizers did an amazing job, and the event was completely sold out.
The excitement and curiosity of the young audience made the experience really special.
WordCamp Guatemala
Then came WordCamp Guatemala, where I gave a talk about the latest technologies WordPress is using with artificial intelligence.
I introduced the Abilities API, the AI SDK, and the MCP Adapter.
As the final surprise, I also showed Telex, an Automattic tool that everyone loved.
It was a great trip. My wife joined me for the first time, and she got very interested in being part of the WordPress community too.
That made the whole experience even better.
WordCamp San José – Lead Organizer
After a full year of planning, WordCamp San José 2025 finally became a reality.
I can’t thank enough the amazing team of organizers who supported me from day one. Without them, this event would not have been possible. The event was a total success. We sold out and counted more than 380 attendees, even though we had space for 300.
Local and global sponsors were full of energy and support, and we received very positive feedback from everyone. It was a proud moment for all of us.
GDG Pura Vida – DevFest 2025
The last big event of the year was GDG Pura Vida – DevFest 2025.
It was a beautiful event, a bit different from the WordPress world but full of great people.
I gave a small workshop about how to create your own agentic flow using open source technologies, something I really enjoy teaching.
It was the perfect way to close the year.
And as a small spoiler, I’ll give one more talk at the end of the month about the WordPress block editor.
Let’s see what next year brings.
Every event this year was different, but they all had something in common: the power of community. WordPress is not just software. It is people who help each other, learn together, and build things that make a difference.
2025 reminded me why I love this community and why I will keep being part of it.
